This caught my eye one day as I was rifling through a dollar bin in Williamsburg. It wasn’t until I got it home that it occurred to me that “Eivets Rednow” is “Stevie Wonder” spelled backwards(!) This is an album of Stevie Wonder playing the harmonica– all instrumentals– layered over some fairly MOR backing arrangements. Stevie’s excellent playing more than makes up for 101 Strings-esque sound, though.
The strange name is due to a contract dispute– apparently Motown wouldn’t let Stevie do a non-vocal album under his own name, so he chose this pseudonym. He was only 18 when he recorded it! I apparently lucked out in a big way, because whereas I paid $1.99 for this beauty, used CD copies are going on Amazon for about $50. The sleeve’s a bit worn, but the vinyl plays nice and crisp.

I purchased the LP around 1968. Still have it. It’s a great album!!
