The Hawaiian Hula Boys – Hi-Fi in Hawaii

hifi_hawaii_front.jpghifi_hawaii_back.jpg

I originally picked this up thinking it was some weird Latin American Hula fusion record (the back is entirely in Spanish and the record seems to be from Venezula.) Well… no. It’s even weirder: Hawaiian music with a Dixieland sound. And it’s apparently a South American reissue (bootleg?) of an American a British record. Very fun and goofy Hula tunes from guitarist Billy Bell. (A very clean transfer with only minimal surface noise, too!) Enjoy.

Thanks for the Hawaiian Hula Boys…I can’t wait to hear it later tonight….Tiki-Tim

Billy Bell is the Hawaiian guitarist, Norrie Paramore is the orchestral leader and producer, recorded in the United Kingdom. The same line-up as the Big Ben Hawaiian Band.

This looks fabulous, could you repost it?

Billy was one of the top hawaiian guitarists
here in England.
Played for many bands in the passed.
He first played steel guitar for felix mendelssohn.
Then play for the big ben band in the 1960s.
He was also a top banjo player here in the uk.
I guess one of the best there ever been.
He also composed many songs for films and all kinds of people.
One of his last jobs was recording with another steel guitar
called Wout steenhuis in the 1980s
Billy died i think around 1993 or 4 at a real great age.
In the 1920s he was known as the boy wonder for his banjo playing,as he played so well.
I used to write letters to him from time to time
And have a telelphone chat many times.
And he is still very much missed today

I have been looking for this LP. I would very much like to know how to purchase this LP or the CD.

Thanks

This too.

Bought this album many years ago.It remains my favorite hawaiian album.

I have a Reel to Reel recording of this I got mixed in with about 50 others that I have enjoyed going through and seeing what they all are. This one was labeled good and I found this record cover photo on this site and matched the songs up to find out more about it. Thanks for putting this out there. I found one on ebay but it was only the front cover. Does anyone know what year this was recorded?

Part Deux — If the full album was posted before, is there any chance of a repost? This and the other Hawai’ian album look like a potential good listen. If not, thanks for the sample tune at least, appreciate it.

Thought I would mention that I have the UK Columbia version of this album. It was an early stereo LP #SCX 3258 and was issued in 1958. The stereo is superb.

If anyone would like a copy of this lovely lp
Im sure you will find it on ebay as ive seen it many times
on the ebay site
The lp was recored in 1958
